Overall a good little toy for the money. Made of plastic with a light weight feeling to it. One handed operation allows you to use closed position or extended out, with both lights and sounds working. Some drawbacks however are that the sounds cycle through all of the various sonic screwdriver noises not just the 10th doctor's as I feel it should be. So each time you push the button you get a different sound. Also there are two different power buttons, one to operate when closed and another for when extended. Which means you have to push two different buttons depending on if it is open or closed. I found this to be a little weird and worth mentioning but didn't take away from the functionality. Also worth noting that the bottom is a press-on cap that seems to be intentionally removable by the customer. I'm not sure if this is so parts can be swapped or upgraded with additional purchases but it's some what annoying when it pops off during use. This item was purchased for a 7 yr old boy, who loves it. This review was written after a month of use. I would recommend this to a friend and would purchase it again. This isn't that complicated of a toy, so there isn't too much to review. The build quality is solid, nothing felt like it was going to snap off, even with some good flicking action. At least one complaint from the other versions of this screwdriver remain, the button to activate the lights/sounds isn't on the sliding switch, it's actually two buttons on the body of the screwdriver. This takes away from some of the realism, but it's not too difficult to get good a button-pressing-action rhythm going. The light is blue, and the speaker is loud, although I wish it only made the sounds of the 10th Doctor's screwdriver, there are some other (older?) sound effects that are a little out of place. The bottom portion still pops off as though to accept the pen nib, but no pen is included with this toy.But 1* for everything else. Seriously, it's a very simple toy that collectors don't really take it out of the package. Fool if you're trying to use it to fix things or unlock doors, unless it's a metal one with combo lock. It's really a pen that make noise. That's all.For my sonic screwdriver collection! It is a very nice tenth doctors sonic screwdriver. Yes it is almost exactly like all the others accept for the color witch I like. Warning! DO NOT TAKE OF THE CAP TO GET TO THE BATTERIES BEFORE YOU NEED TOO!! When I did this it never stayed on longer than 5 minutes without falling off. Also it fell apart and now i can get to the battery compartment easily. But still, I really liked , it was my first sonic screwdriver and as long s you don't take off the cap before your batteries need to be changed it is great.I was a little iffy when I first opened the package because it was really light. Then I thought to myself, "it's a toy!" I was really impressed with the blue light, it was really blue and bright just like the show (not purple hue). There are 4 different sounds and one of them sounded just like the actual sonic screwdriver we hear on the show. I bought it to add to my collection, I don't plan on playing with it much so I have no idea how durable it is.The material is plastic and painted silver to make it look like metal.Once again, it's a toy but it's a really impressive replica of Ten's Doctor' Sonic. I'm sure he'll approve.Let me start off by saying yes, this is about the four hundredth time this screwdriver has been released. BUT, this is still worth a buy. If you're like me you already have the UV light version with the black ink nib and the UV ink nib. So when I seen this had a blue, yes, BLUE light I had to buy it. Yeah there are other versions with the blue light that have the Grey handle, but since this is an anniversary piece its "collectable". The light is very bright, yellow helix in the clear shaft piece and its noticeably louder than my other version of the tenth sonic. The end piece hasn't an ink nib but can be switched out for one. All in all a good purchase, even with the yellow handle. This is the Sonic Screwdriver that every Doctor Who fans need, the only problem that I can really think of is the slider goes a up and down a bit too fast and smooth it makes feel like you can simply flick it. All I had to do was tighten up the screw and its good. This is the closest Sonic Screwdriver that you can actually consider as both the 9th and 10th Doctor's since the 9th doctor sonic that they realeased is a mint green blueish and is nothing like what it actually was. THIS ON THE OTHER HAND, Is the one that you can actually consider as 9's. I absolutely loved the product. Definite buy for big Doctor Who fans.
