My first experience with a latex topper and so many confusing- or rather conflicting reviews ! When I decided on the firm there were no reviews on it only on all the other choices in firmness. I like a fairly firm mattress and I am mostly a stomach sleeper. I don't like the feeling of sinking in to a topper but at the same time I wanted something that was going to add some cushion to my firm mattress that is brand new and Not a cushion top. It's a tight top. When I first put the firm 2" topper on my new firm mattress I thought it didn't feel much different than he mattress without a topper. It felt about the same but a little more "give" to it. After sleeping on it for a couple of weeks the mattress and topper have broken in very nicely. It seems to have softened up to the point of being about perfect for my liking. When I lay on it, it feels really nice and cushie but still retains the support I love without any sinking in feeling. I can't say whether it's the mattress or the topper or both that has changed but now I am really loving it. When I lay on it now it says "Hello Rob I missed you-welcome back" I believe the firmness level choice has a lot to do with the existing mattress your using. That could change the impression of whether a topper is soft or firm to a good extent. This topper is a Dunlap type and are said to have a more firm feel then a Talalay type. That is why I went with the Dunlap in the first place although at first I almost thought it was going to be too firm. I sleep on the right side of a queen size mattress but when I move over to the left side to compare the feel of the mattress there is a big difference in firmness. I can get a real side by side comparison of before and after break in periods and this is why I say what mattress is under the topper makes a huge difference on how the topper will really feel to you. I believe that's why so many people have different firmness views of the same topper. Take a good feel of your mattress and decide if you would like add a touch of firmness or softness to it but in the end the mattress will decide what you will end up with. That's my experience with latex toppers.
